Overview

Led by Project TEACH’s expert team of reproductive psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers, this training program is designed to enhance your skills in supporting, assessing and managing mental health concerns in perinatal patients/individuals. We encourage all who work with perinatal individuals to attend this program. Course content will directly apply to the following professions: Maternal health prescribers (e.g., OB-GYN, Family Medicine, Pediatrics), nurses, social workers, lactation counselors, and community and allied health professionals.

Project TEACH is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health and all services and events, such as this intensive training, are offered at no-cost to clinicians in New York State.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this program, learners will:

  • Increase their skill in discussing mental health symptoms with perinatal individuals and enhancing their motivation and commitment to change.
  • Know how to utilize validated screening tools to improve their ability to detect perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
  • Know how to utilize validated suicide risk assessment tools to improve their ability to assess suicidal risk in perinatal patients.
  • Receive up to date, evidence-based information about when, what, why, and how to use psychotropic medications in perinatal patients.
Target Audience

New York State based physicians (e.g., ob-gyn, pediatric and family medicine), psychiatrists, midwives, doulas, lactation counselors, nursing professionals, residents, social workers and community and allied health professionals.
