Child & Adolescent Consultations

Available Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm

Project TEACH allows prescribers in New York State to speak directly with a child and adolescent psychiatrists and/or reproductive psychiatrist. Ask questions, discuss cases, review treatment options, or obtain referral assistance. Whatever you need to support the mental health needs of patients in your practice.

If you have a question about pediatric or perinatal mental health, here's how the access line works:

  1. You (or someone in their office familiar with the case) can call our clinical line: 855-227-7272
  2. A behavioral health expert (liaison coordinator) answers, gathers intake information and responds to questions about resources.
  3. Then, within 30 minutes (or at a requested time) a child/adolescent or perinatal psychiatrist will call you, the prescriber.

What happens when you call the warmline?

A Project TEACH liaison coordinator answers the call and makes the first few minutes simple, supportive, and focused on getting you the consultation you need.

1

Initial Call

The liaison coordinator answers the call and confirms your contact information.

2

Clinical Discussion

The coordinator listens to your clinical concerns and needs. You can:

  • Ask a general child/adol or perinatal mental health question.
  • Discuss a specific case.
  • Request community referral/resources support.
  • Request follow-up support from a previous discussion.

3

Documentation

A summary of the case or question is documented.

If you request a clinical consultation

A psychiatrist or psychologist calls the clinician within 30 minutes, or at the time you prefer, to discuss the case.

If you request referral support

The liaison coordinator begins referral support immediately and helps connect your practice to relevant resources.

Plan for 3-7 minutes with the liaison coordinator. Anyone affiliated with the case can start the intake; Consultations must occur with the clinician providing treatment.

Face-to-Face Consultations

You can request face-to-face (or telehealth) consultations with one of our child and adolescent psychiatrists for the children and families in your practice. Consultations will be scheduled within 2 weeks and a written report promptly sent to your office.

If your office would like to offer consultations via videoconference, our Project TEACH clinical teams can work with you to make this service available. It’s an option for families that live more than one hour from the consulting psychiatrist or have limited access to transportation.

It is our expectation that face-to-face consultations will occur within two weeks of your requests. All face-to-face consultations are followed by written reports to the referring prescriber(s) within 48 hours.
